In other words, leap year keeps the seasonal calendar in sync with the astronomical calendar. It is a course correction. It keeps things in sync.
Jesus often spoke of course corrections. Here is one example:
Mark 6:31 New Living Translation (NLT)
31 Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.
There is so much ‘coming and going’ in our lives. So much! Things go out of sync when left unattended. This is true of life as well as the calendar. This is true in our faith journey as well.
One of the best ways to do a course correction is to get away; to leave the chaos…, to retreat…, rest…, and return renewed. I encourage you to get away, to book a retreat at Taconic. Make it a personal retreat, a small group retreat, a leadership team retreat, or any of a number of special group retreats. The hardest part is making it happen. The best part is the benefit you will receive.
Psalm 46:10 NLT
10 “Be still, and know that I am God!”
